Sun-Kissed Stories: A Book Review of ‘Do Lizards Eat Ice Cream?’ and a Brand New Tale!

Summer in Cincinnati is a time of bright sunshine, buzzing cicadas, and the endless, wonderful questions from our little ones. "Why is the sun so hot?" "Do worms get sunburned?" Finding books that can answer these curiosities with both scientific wonder and playful fun is a true joy. That's why I was so thrilled to discover the fantastic book," “Do Lizards Eat Ice Cream?,” available at the Cincinnati Public Library.

This book is a perfect example of what we love to feature on the Brave new blog. It takes simple, delightful questions a child might dream up—like "Do alligators wear shades?"—and answers them with fascinating facts. The answer, by the way, is no! Alligators don't need sunglasses because they have special pupils shaped like keyholes that are expertly designed to block out harsh sunlight. The book is filled with these kinds of amazing details, exploring the many clever ways animals have adapted to thrive in the sun. It’s an informative and engaging read that brilliantly nurtures a child's natural curiosity about the world around them.

Speaking of the sun and the sweet treats we all love to enjoy under it, this book got us thinking about our own local summer adventures. While lizards might not eat ice cream, we certainly do!

This brings me to some exciting news. Inspired by those perfect Cincinnati summer days, we're releasing a brand new, free rhyming short story on the website called "Bold Faced Beau."

Our story follows a spirited young boy named Beau from Price Hill who loves nothing more than a day spent at the swimming pool. After splashing and playing, he hops on his bike and pedals up to the local "The Bold Face Dairy Bar" for a delicious, well-earned treat. It's a simple tale celebrating neighborhood fun, summer freedom, and, of course, delicious ice cream.

Great books can teach us about the world, and they can also inspire us to celebrate our own small corner of it. We hope you’ll check out Do Lizards Eat Ice Cream? and then enjoy our new story, "Bold Faced Beau," as a perfect summer afternoon read. And if you’re ever in Price Hill, I recommend stopping by The Bold Face Dairy Bar located at 801 Mt Hope Ave Suite B, Cincinnati, OH 45204, right below Bloc Coffee Company!
